I hate Valentine's Day. Why? Because it's a day that's supposed to be cheesy and lovey and fun, but people just talk about how they're, "forever alone" and "woe is me."
I have a boyfriend, so I understand that this may sound biased, but I truly believe that Valentine's Day shouldn't be a time to think about the one relationship you don't have. Think about it. You may not have a romantic relationship, but you have SO MANY OTHERS. You have friends, family; maybe you're close to your teammates or your professors.
I've studied abroad 3 times. Every time in the spring semester. I normally left in January, so by the time Valentine's Day rolled around, the friendships I had formed were still pretty new. And in every experience I had, people were "forever alone" for Valentine's Day. But what I noticed, was that this holiday made my friendships stronger. We bonded over lost loves and encouraged each other to stay positive.
That's what Valentine's Day should be about: focusing on the love you DO have in your life. It shouldn't matter if it isn't romantic. Focus on your relationships with yourself, your friends, and your family. If you do that, it won't matter that you don't have a romantic relationship. Because you have so many other powerful relationships.
