Study Abroad: Living Vicariously Through My Big

My Big, Halle, is an international business major studying abroad in Italy this semester. While I miss her like crazy, I'm so happy that she's having the time of her life and experiencing such an amazing country. I asked her to name the top 10 reasons why she loves Italy so far:

1. FOOD
The phrase “when in Rome" couldn't be more appropriate because Italian food has no comparison. You can't walk down a street without passing five places, each full of amazing sweets and pastries. Pasta is an every day experience, and there is no guilt when it comes to carbs. More than just food tasting good, eating is a part of life. You can spend hours and hours eating in Italy.

2. New people
Studying abroad has introduced me to different people from all over the world, and it's the greatest thing ever. As cliché as it sounds, it's opened my mind to so many new things and made me realize how big and interesting the world is.

3. Relaxed life
An Italian minute is a lot longer than a minute in the rest of the world. Nothing ever happens on time, and it's okay. People don't rush or pack their schedules the way I'm used to, and it's a nice change of pace because I'm never stressed.

4. No two places are the same
I can't say I don't miss my favorite American chains like Chipotle or Dunkin Donuts, but going into a family-run restaurant or bar every time you go out is so unique and personal. I've been to lots of Italian cities so far in the North, South and West, and they are all different in their own way. Getting to see all sides of a country within a few hours of travel is really special and unlike anything I've experienced.

5. Wine is as cheap as water
No explanation needed.

6. Walking
I haven't driven in a car in over two months, and it's awesome. I love being able to walk everywhere, and it's so cool to just turn down new streets and find new places. I also feel super healthy when I think, “Wow, I walked eight miles today."

7. Parks
There are pretty parks everywhere, and it's so nice to lay in the grass and read or study or bring food and just hang out in the sun with friends.

8. History
In any country you visit there will be history, but Rome brings it to a whole new level. The Pantheon was built nearly 2000 years ago and is still in amazing condition. You can walk around the city and pass by ancient ruins like it's no big deal.

9. Coffee
Cappuccino is deliciously pretty and only a euro at my favorite cafe (Starbucks, who needs you?). Getting used to drinking espresso took some time, but the cute cups made it easier.

10. Language
Everyone knows that Italian is beautiful, but walking around and hearing “ciao bella" doesn't ever get old. People are so passionate when they talk—with all the gestures and how loudly they speak, it's so entertaining. Also, having people speak to you in another language and seeing your skills improve is really fun.

Since the only vision I can imagine when I think of Italy is The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Halle's description has 100 percent made me want to experience it myself. While she is living it up in Italy, we will all be studying for finals. Something about that just doesn't seem right. I can't wait to study abroad in the years to come, and if Halle's list doesn't make everyone else want to study abroad too, well, read it again.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

school

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
