Studio Ghibli movies are hitting Netflix, but here's the catch

Netflix announced that the beloved animated films of Studio Ghibli will hit their streaming platform on February 1, 2020. 21 films will be available to stream in up to 28 different languages for fans across the world to enjoy.

For fans in Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America, this is news to celebrate and count down the days toward. But for fans in the US, Canada and Japan, it's a different story. Unfortunately, the collection of these Studio Ghibli movies will not be available in these three countries due to the streaming rights of competing platforms.

So if you're in one of these three countries and can't wait to binge-watch the entire Hayao Miyazaki collection, you're probably wondering where to watch these animated favorites.

For audiences in the US, the entire collection of Studio Ghibli films will be available to stream on HBO Max when the platform launches later this year. This also goes for fans in Canada, however, HBO Max still does not have a projected launch date at the moment.

The films, including favorites like Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service, are also available to rent or buy on platforms such as Amazon, Youtube, iTunes and Google Play.

This news comes is a game-changer for fans because until recently, Studio Ghibli did not offer its movies in any digital format beyond DVD releases. Studio Ghibli Producer Toshio Suzuki shared that this decision came from a hope that a new generation of fans will be able to enjoy these animated favorites. "In this day and age, there are various great ways a film can reach audiences," Suzuki comments, "We hope people around the world will discover the world of Studio Ghibli through this experience."

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
