Grades Are Important.

To The Student Who Puts Their Education First.

"College is the best four year of your life" "Go out, have fun" Those are just two quotes every college kid hears before they start their freshman year. I heard those same quotes right before my freshman year, and I heard them again before I started my sophomore year.

I'm almost through my fall semester of sophomore year, and I still haven't gone out on the weekends, or thirsty Thursday. I'm swamped with homework, studying, a job, and other priorities. In fact, last weekend I had to write 7 papers, this past weekend I had 11 homework assignments/papers to complete. I have no time, my time at college is consumed with homework. I only have class two days a week, and I'm still stuck doing homework on the weekends. How is that possible? I have no idea.

My education comes first, sleep comes second, and a social life comes third.

I do take the occasional trip to New York City on weekday mornings to go to one of the morning shows like The View. Or, I go to a lot of local shows to see bands that I like. In fact, I have two shows this week and I'm going to New York City to go to The View.

Do I feel like I'm missing out? Of course not. I'd rather stay in my dorm all weekend doing homework, to get good grades rather than going out and trying to cram in all my homework in one night, which is impossible.

I am perfectly content with my life, my dorm room is cozy and I don't mind being alone.

I'm active on campus, I'm always going to events. There's events on weekends that go on, probably for people like me who stick around and don't go to parties. You're paying so much money to attend a college, be active on campus, go to free events, win free prizes, get free t-shirts, most importantly get the free food!! Remember college by going to their events, read your weekly emails that inform you on what's happening this week. Bring your friends with you, make new friends, it's fun. Don't waste your money, you chose your college for a reason, enjoy it.

It's okay not to go out, it's okay to stay on campus getting your work done, it will be all worth it in the end when you're walking up to get your degree. Plus hey, if you're active on campus, going to events and in clubs, that will look fantastic on job applications.

Enjoy college, enjoy what your college has to offer, your four years will fly by before you know it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
