Fort Wayne, Ind. -- After months of transitioning from the schedule of a college student to that of a full-time worker, Jacob Driskell, a 21-year-old summer intern at a small construction company, exclaimed to reporters that he had "finally acclimated to a real-world schedule just in time to return to school."
"When I first started working this summer, it was tough getting any kind of routine down," said Driskell. "I was used to staying up late, not having to cook for myself, and above all I missed my friends and family."
"Now, I'm fully adjusted to where I've got a great schedule--too bad my last day is this Thursday."
This summer was Driskell's first experience living entirely on his own, and he explained in great depth the initial difficulty compared to now where he is thriving.
"I could hardly make anything more than Easy Mac at the start of my work term. Now, I've taken to cooking and actually enjoy making new things and trying different recipes."
Driskell also discussed how he went from knowing no one within an hour's drive to having several new friends in town. These came from a slow-pitch softball team he joined as well as a couple of acquaintances at the gym in the local YMCA.
"I was actually invited to a coworker's family reunion on the 4th of July. I'd be going on a fishing trip too if it wasn't during the first week of classes."
Driskell went on to say that his sleeping schedule has become more regular and predictable than it ever was in college. Coming out of the methodical routine he has developed over the last 10 weeks will be "a nightmare" he says.
