For the past couple of months, I’ve found myself dwelling a lot on the idea of life being cyclic.
Monday: soccer practice.
Tuesday: trash day.
Wednesday: staff meeting.
Thursday: soccer practice. Again.
Friday: laundry day.
Saturday: rest??? Probably not.
Sunday: church, obligatory lunch with family, finish the laundry you probably didn’t finish on Friday, get ready to do it all again.
We can all identify with the seemingly never ending cycle of work, chores, and to do lists. We feel like we do the same exact stuff day in and day out, and it can become understandingly exhausting. Overwhelming even, if you ask me.
But what I’ve realized recently is that yes, it’s exhausting and yes it’s overwhelming, but even more so, it’s dangerous.
Being ‘stuck’ in the cycle of life allows us to take too many things for granted. When you take step back and look at your schedule, it’s very easy to see the things that we forget to be thankful for, simply because we HAVE to do them so often.
You have to take the kids to soccer practice? They are healthy and active.
You have to sit through a meeting? You have a job to provide for yourself and your family.
You have to do laundry? You live in a country where you can buy clothes and easily wash them.
You didn’t get to have your rest day this week? You have so many opportunities to do new things!
You have to get up early and get to church? You are able to worship freely.
It’s hard to realize that we don’t appreciate these luxuries the way we should every single day, but what a great reminder it can be to slow down and be thankful!
