First and foremost, congratulations!
It doesn't matter how long it took you to get to where you are, but that you have made it to this point. You graduated. Unfortunately, there are a number of people who can't say that they were able to receive their diploma. But, you, you are one of the few who can actually say you have done it. You should be truly proud of yourself.
Now you're in the next chapter of life. Welcome to adulthood, or at least the attempt of entering adulthood.
In the economy we live in, landing a job is harder than it seems. People are staying in their jobs longer than they previously had, causing a small gap in the number of available jobs.
Yes, this will cause you to stress out. It isn't always like the movies. We always see these actors portraying recent college graduates, and somehow they automatically land a job and enter the real world.
I'm not saying it's going to be tough for everyone. There will be some of you that will be able to land a job before you graduate, and will be ready for reality. You don't understand how truly lucky you are.
But, this article is for those who are stuck in limbo. Being a college graduate but not being a full time employee, especially in your field of study. Some of you may have a heavy resume full of skills, past jobs and internships. You may even look at these resume builders and try to figure out as to why you can't land the dream job.
Take this as a sign. Sometimes the right job isn't the job you automatically wanted to try. Sometimes the right job isn't actually in the exact concentration you studied.
Don't give up. Don't believe you won't make it much further. Its cliché, but just keep trying and don't stop believing. Keep working on things to build up your resumé in the specific category you want to go into. Really see if this is the profession you really want to take up. Focus on networking, focus on looking into every company that falls under your dream job and meet the people who are connected. Keep in mind: it's not always what you know, it's about who you know. Connections are key. Even if you didn't build those connections during years at school, you still have a chance to build them now.
Don't allow yourself to get discouraged cause you aren't graduating college with a set plan, or an exact job. Keep trying, and keep meeting new people. You will find the job that is a perfect fit for you. The job that is or isn't everything you always wanted, but is still just as perfect. We are all meant to fall into a little plan. Granted we may run into a few rough roads, but those lead us to beautiful destinations. You're on a path, and you will see that all those years in school paid off.
I'm in the same boat as you, and we will reach that dream job that won't make work feel like an unwanted chore.
Good luck to you. Good luck on your endeavors.
