To the struggling college student,
College is hard. But that’s probably obvious to you.
As a matter of fact, you might be in that stage where you’re rethinking everything: your major, your education, your hobbies, your social group, your life. You’re at the brink of giving up...
And sure, let’s say you do. Maybe you opt for an easier major, seclude yourself from friends, change occupational aspirations or maybe even give up completely on higher education.
While all that could be an easier, more comfortable option, would you be satisfied? Would you be happy?
The same reasons you decided to apply to colleges, the pride you felt when you were accepted, and the burst of excitement you had on your first day of freshman year – something inside of you drove you with desire, passion and hope. While we may all have different reasons to be here, it’s safe to say that you’re on a path that gives you a higher level of education, helps you to potentially become more understanding and open, helps you become connected with others who have similar visions, and helps you expand and explore your options.
You knew it wasn’t going to be an easy, smooth ride the entire way through, but you still chose to accept the challenge. You had or are developing a goal, whatever that may be, and you know with all your heart that you want to get there.
Maybe you’re currently not in a good place financially, emotionally, mentally, or academically. But know that life doesn’t finish here.
Don’t stop at a bad grade, or a terrible professor, or another all-nighter, or because you’re home-sick. Instead, remember who you are and where you want to see yourself in five, ten, twenty years. Remember why you chose college. Remember why you chose your major and why you love what you do. Remember that God is standing with you throughout your entire journey.
And struggling college student, remember that your GPA will never dictate who you are or who you’ll become, but that it’s instead you who will choose what happens.
