The Struggles Of A YouTuber

So, granted I haven't posted a video on YouTube in a couple of months now (oops), one thing you may not have known about me is that I am a YouTuber! (youtube.com/nick14cummings) *hint hint*

I have been making silly videos on this international video-sharing platform since a confused middle schooler. Thankfully the videos of my earlier days are privated, but I started uploading at a consistent basis just a couple of years ago. Since then, I have noticed 10 struggles that myself and many other YouTubers that I have met consistently experience.

1. Time. So much Time.

Not many people realize how much time goes into making a YouTube video. First, you have to come up with an idea, film the video, edit(which takes the longest), upload it (which can take even longer if you have really bad WV or university internet like me), and wait for someone to see it.

2. The Lack of viewers

I'm not saying I'm only doing YouTube for the fame, but it is a little discouraging when you put all of your time and energy into making a video perfect for only a few people to see it.

3. The camera battery dies in the middle of filming

This happens to all of us. And it sucks. Especially when its during a really good take.

4. Running out of space on SD card

There is only so much our SD cards can hold and deciding which clips to delete in order to make more space is sometimes like deciding between Eating or Sleeping. Both are just necessary and equally satisfying, but you only have time for one.

5. Filming an entire video out of focus.

THIS HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME I FILM THE PERFECT VIDEO BUT EVERYTHING IS BLURRY AND IT MAKES ME SO MAD WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF

6. Somebody walking in on you filming

My mom has done this to me several times and it is probably the most awkward thing ever. I mean you're just sitting in your room alone talking to a camera. I know, mom I need to get out more.

7. Not having any ideas

Today is the day for you to film a video and you can't think of anything but to do a Q and A or the "whisper challenge." We've all been there.

8. Someone watching your videos in front of you

If you ever want to make a YouTuber feel extremely uncomfortable and most likely hate you for the rest of eternity, just pull up one of their videos while you guys are hanging out. Don't ask us why it makes us feel like you're gouging our eyes out. It just does.

9. Not Having time to make videos

We get so busy sometimes and we WANT to make a video- we really do! But our busy schedules just don't allow it. We're sorry, we really are. Please don't leave.

10. People watch your videos but don't subscribe

Okay this may just be me getting nit-picky, but some people just don't know what the word "subscribe" means. If you are a consistent watcher of someone's videos, do them the biggest favor in the world and click the subscribe button so they know that you love them!

So, there you have it. Being a YouTuber isn't all it's cracked up to be, but we do it because we enjoy it! I'm going to take this opportunity to shamelessly promote my YouTube channel! Click the link below to visit!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
