Struggles Of Working Full-Time This Summer

Well, there goes my social life...

Struggles Of Working Full-Time This Summer

Summer is supposed to be all about fun in the sun and relaxation. Or at least that's what it used to be about until you found a summer job. Whether you're working the have a little extra cash, interning, or living that post-grad life; working during the summer months is killer. Not only on your mental state but also your social life. It sounded like a great idea until you realized your summers of relaxing by the pool and week long beach trips are over. I'm right there with you working a full-time job this summer and I'm only slightly regretting it (until I get my paycheck of course). Here are a few struggles I think we have all felt or will feel at some point this summer:

Not being able to sleep in.

I mean come on, I just spent the rest of the year waking up early for classes, I was not planning on waking up at 6 a.m. every day of the summer. The only thing that gets you out of bed every day is the thought of coffee less than 50 feet from you.

Struggling to find an appropriate outfit for the weather and work dress codes.

It's like being in high school again with a dress code but you can't just wear sweatpants every day anymore (and if you can wear sweatpants to work I'm very jealous of you) . Not to mention my closet looks like a disaster zone trying to find an appropriate outfit every morning.

Missing out on all the beautiful weather because you're stuck inside.

On the days when your face isn't melting off from the heat, your stuck inside working all day. And of course your office doesn't even have windows, it's basically a prison cell.

Not getting to do your normal summer activities.

No more spontaneous beach trips with your friends or endless lounging by the pool for you. Seeing all your other friends living up their summers while you're stuck at work makes you hate them just a little bit.

Your friends and family think you've become a workaholic.

Every time someone tries to see you or make plans your answer is always, "I can't, I have to work." Now all your friends think you've turned into a workaholic and now that you start to think about maybe you start thinking it too.

Weekends are wasted because you're too exhausted to do anything.

Your weekends are spent trying to recover from the crazy hectic week you had and you don't have energy to even leave your house. For me, that usually means not leaving my bed for most of the day and binge watching Netflix while online shopping (because #retailtherapy).

Even though your stuck working all summer long, that extra experience on your resume should all be worth it. Or maybe all the money you made and eventually spent online shopping. Either way, it was totally worth it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
