You sit at your desk with your to-do list in front of you, staring you in the face.It seems a mile long, consisting of all the things you’ve been putting off until this very moment.With a sigh you go back to Netflix, ignoring all responsibilities yet again.
It can be hard to find the motivation to complete things until it is absolutely imperative that you do. For procrastinators, it is nearly impossible to do anything until the day before, or even the day of, the deadline.
This adds a ton of unnecessary stress, as you can imagine. Personally, I often put off my most stressful assignments which only adds to the high amount of stress I’m already feeling.This can leave me feeling exhausted before I even start.This exhaustion just makes me more likely to procrastinate.
It’s obvious that procrastinating can become a deadly cycle that can be impossible to escape.
Other people will tell you to just simply stop procrastinating and to do your tasks before time is almost up. Us procrastinators wish it was that easy.
Many of us don’t choose to procrastinate, it just happens. The voice inside others’ heads telling them to do their stuff instead tells us to watch another episode or to take another nap.
And stupidly listening, we do.
We realize it’s happening but are powerless to do anything about it. It’s almost like we need the pressure of an approaching deadline to spur us into action.
I have friends who are always on top of things and have no problem with finishing something days before its due. Even now, as I write this, my friend is next to me doing homework that isn’t due until next week. In contrast, here I am writing this article merely hours before its deadline.
If anyone is reading this hoping for advice to take charge and stop procrastinating, then I regret to inform them that I have no answers.
I am a chronic procrastinator and could use some help to change myself.
