Getting body piercings can be an awesome, thrilling, and empowering experience. However, it can also be painful and annoying. Having 9 piercings myself, I thought I would enlighten the public on my experiences, the struggles I have faced and why it was worth it.

On a side note: I hope you all enjoy my wonderful heading picture of my good friend Maria who just recently got a couple more piercings. As you can see from her facial expressions, she was not enjoying herself. Despite a few tears, she looks great with her new ear additions.

Struggle #1:

First and foremost, getting your ears pierced does not in anyway feel good. However, the initial pain doesn't last long and it is quick.

Struggle #2

After getting a piercing, it is essential that you take proper care of it. The last thing you want is to get an infection. Good and frequent cleaning helps with the soreness and redness around the area. It is very annoying but very important.

Struggle #3

Getting your clothes/hair/fingers/pillow/everything/anything caught on your earrings or other piercings is THE MOST PAINFUL thing ever during the few weeks that the area is sore after getting a piercing.

Struggle #4

Not being able to change the initial earring that you get pierced with for like 6 weeks! Incredibly inconvenient and annoying. Especially when you are feeling extra cute and want your earrings and other piercings to match your outfit.

Struggle #5

If you are an athlete, there is never a good time to get a piercing. Taking them in and out for sports, work or other events can be painful and disastrous. Especially if it hasn't had enough time to heal.

Although getting a piercing has its downsides, there are many positives of getting one as well. It provides a non-permanent change (much better/safer than a tattoo @mom), they provide an opportunity for self-expression, they are fun and cute, and most people that get them fall in love and become obsessed right away! Just like Maria!

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.
