The movement to a new, four-year temporary "home" is a change in itself, however, the transition from the suburb of Jericho, Long Island to the city of Madison poses an additional set of adaptations.
1. Sweet, almost too sweet, iced coffee.
Call it coffee or ice cream, your pick. Jericho Deli, however recently renamed, is known for its french vanilla iced coffee carried in white styrofoam cups.
2. The presence of a real deli.
3. Unlimited frozen yogurt and nail salons.
4. Lack of noticeable change in seasons.
Unlike winter, spring, summer, and fall...Madison goes from positive to negative degree weather real quick.
5. Mom can't drop off your lunch.
The high school attendance office consists of labeled brown bags, Have A Nice Day shopping bags, Lulu lemon bags all stuffed with gourmet and picked up lunches.
6. Need for more extra credit.
7. Frapples from the Cider Mill.
8. Suburb perks.
This less hectic lifestyle contains less traffic and more openness. The space of a suburb includes open backyards with grass rather than concrete, building filled streets.
9. Walking versus driving.
10. Everyone knows (of) everyone...
Although the high school includes students of not just "Jericho", is it rare to see a completely strange face. If you don't know somebody directly, you know them through your camp friends home friend twice removed. On a college campus, seeing new people is a daily occurrence.
