11 Struggles Of Having Long Hair

It's not all elegant updos and dramatic hair flips.

11 Struggles Of Having Long Hair

I love my long hair. I've spent my entire life growing it out and I can't really picture myself without it. It's fun to style and mess with, and my neck never gets cold in the winter. However, it can also be an absolute royal pain. If you have long hair you can probably relate, and if you're thinking about growing your hair out, here's your warning of what to expect.

1. Wearing lip gloss is tricky.

2. Brushing and styling take forever.

Just brushing through your hair thoroughly can take forever, and if you're going blow dry or style it, you have to plan ahead.

3. You go through a lot of product.

Shampoo and conditioner have a lot of ground to cover which means they run out faster (and of course they never seem to run out at the same time). Thank goodness for Costco size bottles.

4. Babies

I don't know if I have ever held a single baby that did not almost immediately play with my hair. It hurts, but it's also adorable. I have to admit that I don't really mind this one that much.

5. It's always getting caught in things.

Door handles, rough spots on the wall, fire alarms (fortunately I didn't set it off), seat belts, other people, you name it and I have probably gotten my hair stuck to it (although not a mixer, not yet anyways).

6. Ponytails are heavy.

A short time with your hair in a high pony can mean a sore head for hours or even days if you have a sensitive head.

7. The wind is your worst enemy.

Long hair in the wind is not nearly as awesome and sexy as media would have you believe (but really, that pretty much applies to everything doesn't it?). Rather than making you look like a supermodel the wind is more likely to turn you into a zombie, shuffling around trying to see through a hairy curtain.

8. It ends up in your mouth.

This is pretty much just a given. No matter how careful you are or how many hair ties or bobby pins you use you can't hide forever. Whether the wind strikes again or you're trying to eat, your hair ends up in your mouth sooner or later.

9. Tangles are a constant battle.

These are especially prevalent in the winter thanks to fluffy sweaters, scarves, and hooded jackets. It only takes a moment to develop knots that can take forever to work out.

10. People will sit and stand on it

This mostly only happens if you sit on the ground, which I do pretty often. You go to stand up only to be jerked back down to earth. I've even done this to myself a few times by leaning back on my hair.

11. Seat belts

Every time I unbuckle my seat belt there is a 50/50 chance that my hair is going to get pulled back into the housing with the belt. I have lost a lot of hair to cars.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone does not try to help their self before asking others. How can someone else be expected to help you if you do not first do that yourself? I'm all about helping those that need it when the time comes, however whenever someone does not even attempt to help him or herself first then that becomes a huge problem. As we all have learned, people tend to take advantage of us in one way or another. I am sure we all read this short story when we were younger and it follows that same principle:

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.
