In a group of friends you have the ones that go out and party all the time and the one that don't. Being a part of the ones who don't can get pretty annoying sometimes.
1. Having to DD
Being the designated driver is one of the most responsible things you could agree to do. You are allowing you, friends, to get home safely. However, there are some annoyances you have to deal with. Not only do you have to deal with your friends being obnoxiously loud but also having to deal with their friends who just jump in the car. You are using your own gas and never see a penny for any of it. The next day you go in your car and see random stains on your seats and wonder where they came from and what it was.
2. Playing the parent
Before the night even starts you make sure your friends are dressed properly for weather conditions, have their ID, keys, and money, and have a game plan to get home. You make sure at least two of your friends have their phones charged and you always carry extra cash on you in the case of emergencies. Your friends know if they get a missed call from you, it's like getting 15 missed calls from your mom.
3. Being overprotective
If someone so much as looks at one of your friends in a weird way you turn into a mama bear trying to protect her cubs. Making sure you watch their drinks and constantly ask them if they are okay. You make sure they can handle themselves.
4. Smelling of alcohol without actually drinking any
Without a doubt at the end of every night, you smell like some type of alcohol. Either because someone spilled something on you or just being around it for so long.
5. Wanting to stay in when everyone wants to go out
Sometimes a night in is a lot better than constantly going out. Sitting in with a few friends watching a movie can be more fun than going out to a club or bar.
6. Making sure everyone has their belongings at the end of the night
Checking everyone to make sure they have their keys, IDs, and anything else they brought with them. Everyone knows, at least, one person who lost their credit card, license or car keys at least once while they were out.
7. Headcount every five minutes
You gotta make sure all your friends are there and accounted for. It is probably a good idea to start giving people numbers and just make them do a roll call.
8. Being awkward as everyone else has a good time
Standing in the corner of the room watching all your friends have fun is basically what you do at every party. Everyone is dancing, laughing, and having a good time while you are standing in the corner watching and sipping on your soda/water.
9. People asking why you aren't drinking
"Hey, why aren't you drinking?" "Are you drinking?" "What's in your cup?" People coming up to you at every party asking you these questions can get real annoying real quick. You are either driving or just don't want to drink because you want to make sure your friends are okay.
10. Feeling good about yourself at the end of the night
At the end of the night, you feel good about yourself because you were there to take care of your friends and to make sure they all got home safely. No matter how much you think being the responsible friend sucks you would always do it because you love your friends.
