8 Struggles Of Being A Science Major

Pipetting liquids so often, it eventually becomes natural to you.

I am passionate about everything and anything related to science. However, being a biochemistry major comes at a price. Every time someone asks me what my major is and I tell them that I'm a biochem major they all have the same reaction:

"Oh.. that's um, awesome. Are you sure you want to go into such a hard major?"

Yes, I'm sure. I wouldn't be drowning in tons of biology and chemistry classes if I wasn't sure.

Anyways, this article is for all my science majors out there! Here are 8 struggles of being a science major.

1. Having labs that are four hours or longer

There's nothing worse than when you go straight from your bio lecture, to your chem lecture, and then straight to a 4-hour bio lab. Lunch? What's lunch? And how does one fit "lunch" into their schedule?

2. Textbooks, lab manuals, and lab supplies = $$$

Almost every science major dreads the email containing the syllabus with the never-ending list of supplies we need for labs. Because all we see is $$$$$$$$$.

3. Labs are never at reasonable times

Labs are either super early in the morning or super late at night. There is no in-between and either way, you are still losing sleep.

4. Attendance is ALWAYS mandatory

Have an 8 am a lab on a Friday but all your friends' classes ended on a Thursday, so now they want to go out and party? Have fun going to a lab hungover. Science majors know that if you miss one lab, you pretty much already failed the class.

5. Spending more hours studying than you do sleeping

You put at least 3-5 hours worth of studying for every class and lab you attend. Science majors forever wish there were more hours in a day.

6. Having to memorize equations, laws, and vocab for every chapter

Shoutout to my other Biochem majors who also feel like their brain is always going to explode.

7. Never being able to dress weather appropriate for lab

Legs, arms (sometimes), toes, and eyes need to be covered AT ALL TIMES. It sucks when its 90 degrees outside and you have to wear pants to lab and closed toed shoes.

8. Wearing goggles for four hours and then walking around the rest of the day with the goggle's imprints on your face

Eventually, you get used to it.

Keep on, keepin' on my fellow science majors. May the odds ever be in your favor!

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
