Like so many theater fans across America, I was bitten by the "Hamilton" bug a few months ago. From that first listen of the soundtrack on Spotify, to then buying the whole soundtrack on iTunes, I couldn't get the songs or the story out of my head. Now that the show is celebrating it's one-year anniversary on Broadway, it got me thinking about how my life has changed since the obsession started.
1. When you get caught speaking in Hamilton references.
Dinner isn't ready yet: "Cool, I'm willing to wait for it!"
When something doesn't go your way: "I will never be satisfied!"
Big audition or interview coming up: "I am not throwing away my shot!"
Not to mention half of the conversations with your other Hamilton-obsessed friends, that always involve lyrics from "The Schuyler Sisters" or something that rhymes with "Burr, Sir."
2. You can't count to 10 without somehow morphing into the "Ten Duel Commandments" tune
I know, it's such a struggle.
3. On that note, this:
4. Also: when counting, never ever stop at seven.
Poor Phillip! All he wanted to do was defend his pops, and—I know, I know—too soon.
5. Non-stop stalking the cast on social media
And dreaming that one day Lin tweets you back.
6. Dying to see #Ham4Ham
And, if you make it to one, getting a decent standing spot. You'll have a much better view if you just stay home and watch it on YouTube.
7. Now you respond to pretty much everything with this:
Da da da da da...
8. The fact that you can't wait for this election to be over just so you can make this reference:
Also, Daveed's face is entirely priceless.
9. Assigning characters to you & your friends:
#Helpless
10. Tagging people and getting tagged in endless Hamilton memes & Tumblr posts:
11. Becoming a Hamilton-missionary to your un-enlightened friends
The joys of sharing the Hamilton obsession...and Peggy.
