Growing up, I'm sure we've all heard a parent or grandparent tell us how different things were for us than from when they were kids. Even if it was the typical "when I was a boy, I had to walk 10 miles to school in the snow, uphill both ways!" our elders have never had a problem reminding us how much things have changed. I can finally understand it now, as I look at the kids growing up now and how their lives are already different in so many ways. Here are some of the things they'll never have to worry about like we did.
1. Orange makeup lines and blue eye shadow.
I look back at pictures now and think, "Eww! What in the world was I thinking?" Most teenage girls in middle school today have ventured away from shades of blue and can do an almost perfect smokey eye.
2. Having to ask if anyone was using the house phone so you knew if you could connect to the internet.
Wi-Fi, everywhere you went was not a thing. You had to wait 10 minutes for your dial-up to connect, and you could forget it if someone was using the house phone.
3. Three way calls instead of screen shots.
If you wanted your BFF to hear what your crush was saying to you, you had to secretly three-way them and hope your crush didn't hear them breathing.
4. Signatures inserted at the end of every text message.
Signatures were a big deal, and everyone had to have the most creative one.

5. Renting movies from Blockbuster and people not rewinding the VHS before returning it.
Kids today don't even know what a VHS looks like, much less knowing the struggle of your movie not being rewound on it.
6. Watching the scroll of the TV guide channels.
Look away for five seconds, and you have to watch the whole run again just to see what was on your favorite station because you missed it.
7. Trying to listen to music with your headphones that cover your whole ear, but the CD keeps skipping.
Portable CD players were the cool way to jam out to your new Kidz Bop CD that you just had to have. You could forget it working though, if it had even one scratch.
8. Making yourself dizzy looking through all the numbers in The Yellow Pages trying to find the one you needed.
Finding it in 30 seconds on your smartphone was just not an option.
9. Stressing over being in someone's top Myspace friends.
It was always a competition to see who was going to be at the top. You and your friend got in a fight? No biggie. Let them know who is boss and remove them from your top Myspace friends.
10. The disappointment when everyone found out Limewire was illegal.
Oh well. We still continued to use it anyway.
11. Trying to figure out where you were headed by using a physical map or printed directions from Google Maps.
One could only pray they did not miss a road. If that did happen, everything was a mess from that point on.
12. Waiting what seemed like 600 years for your files to download to your Gateway.
Might as well cook dinner and sew a dress while you wait on that cute picture of Jesse McCartney to save.
13. Dying to know all the lyrics to a song, but the CD booklet at the front only had the names of the song at the front.
"Guess I will just wait until mom is off the house phone so I can get on the Internet and print the words to this jamming new Britney song."
14. The sad, sad day when your CD got a huge scratch on it.
Due to this, you couldn't listen to your playlist. Better breathe on the back of the CD really heavy and rub it on your pants.
15. Britney Spear's 2007 meltdown.
Back then, I could not figure out why this famous girl was shaving her head. But now that I am older and out in the real world, I get it, Britney, I get it.
16. Lisa Frank school supplies.
Lisa Frank was the folders, notebooks and pencils to have. They were the cutest and a total must-have.
17. You had to have light up sneakers.
You ran everywhere you went just so your shoes could light up quickly. How cute was that?
18. Not caring about how many likes you got on Instagram or how many retweets you got on Twitter.
This was mainly because those things were not around yet.
19. Razor phones and LG Chocolates were a total must.
So what if we had to press the button three times just to get one letter? We had a cute pink or red phone.
