About halfway through the semester, a lot of students enter a phase known as "hitting the wall." It is not a real wall. Yet, this wall feels pretty real. The worst part? It lasts until finals roll around! Teachers begin overloading assignments, papers, projects, and exams. They aim for students to succeed in their classes... If only they felt the pains and sorrows that are felt by the students as the wall appears out of nowhere.
Several Experiences You Have When You Hit "The Wall" During the Semester
Prioritizing Becomes the MVP
Deciding what assignment should get done first is one of the biggest struggles. Choosing whether to procrastinate, or finish an assignment the night before an exam (when you may have not started studying) is one of the biggest decisions to make. Make sure you contact your professors and be honest about your situation. They will listen and will help you get through!
Time is sometimes on your side
If you have a job or work study position, you lose even more time. Your calendar comes in real handy. Study rooms, exam preparations, tutoring, meetings, work, and other events have to get booked far in advance.
Time to Eat a Real Meal Becomes a Thing of The Past
Coffee shops, McDonalds (maybe Burger King), and frozen meals become your go-to foods to have a fulfilling meal within the few minutes you have to spare. If you are not having any of those, snacks become your back up plan. Although college meals are typically pasta and sandwiches, time to even make the simplest of meals has temporarily disappeared. Hopefully when finals roll around, you can devise a way to make dinner while understanding Booker T. Washington's education system.
Keeping Everything and Everyone in Line
Schedules become hectic for everyone else too! Booking group study sessions or making plans to meet for a class project obtain a whole new level of difficult. Everyone needs to contribute towards their studies, including their share in the project.
What is Even Sleep Anymore?
Power naps and Redbull become your night time crew in getting through a late night paper or last minute studying for an 8 am exam. All of those papers and study guides piling up on your bed stare at you. You may lose some/several nights of sleep, but know you will be done with that before the morning.
Group Projects: A Time That No One Can Meet
When it comes to partner projects, difficulty to meet up is not as brutal. Yet, when the group consists of 6 or 7 people, finishing the project as a whole adds on hardships. That pertains to 7 different schedules and 7 different forms of contributions toward the project.
The Library: Officially Moved In
From the time the doors open to when it closes, many days will be spent at the library. Pure silence assists your attention to assignments while unlimited access to outlets and WiFi befriend the tools you need.
Caffeine is Your Best Friend
Multiple coffee runs per day become an anthem to survive this part of the semester. Where my school is, our area's Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are closed by 7 pm. For those experiencing the same dilemma, stock up some coffees and reheat/reice them during the late night hours.
You Keep Your Chargers In Your Bag
There is no time to run back to your room to grab your chargers for your lifeline of a computer/tablet/mobile device. Each morning they are to be packed then to be re-plugged into their usual outlet before you go to bed. If you forget them, then your next best bet will be utilizing power save or hope you have a friend that will lend you their chargers.
The Tutoring Center is Your Back Up Plan
If you have not given your 100% attention to any of your classes, this is the time to get yourself back into the game. Most colleges/universities have a tutoring center. Book appointments now before the end of the semester. Do not worry. They are there to help you!
Your Motivation to Get Work Done Sky Rockets
Even if you have to pass in something that you have not done much for, any grade is better than a zero! Try your best and never give up. Your drive to finish a project is spectacular. Once you finish a paper, you will reach a whole new level of high. That high being how excited you are.
