All majors have their own unique struggles, but none are quite like health science majors. What with all the biology and anatomy, and tests and lab reports, there is nothing quite like being in the health sciences. Here's a little insight to what it is really like being a health science major in 5 of the main struggles.
1. So much biology.
Fair warning, this major is not for anyone who does not like science, but it is even more so not for anyone who does not like biology. Basically every class in this major ties back into basic biology and the concepts learned in biology 1 and 2.
2. It's like learning a second language.
There are so many vocabulary words, and whole classes dedicated to learning medical terminology and all the names of all the parts of the 206 bones in the body.
3. You get up close and personal with parts of the body that are better left unstudied that closely.
Need I really say anything more?
4. You can't help but make science references everywhere you go.
Every time you hear a sneeze, your mind goes straight to the mechanisms involved in a sneeze. Whenever you get a random itch or pain, you think of the anatomical name for that part of your body. Honestly, it is hard even going out shopping for a Halloween costume without determining whether or not the skeletons on display are correct or not. Fun fact: Usually they are not. Yes, I can say that from actually analyzing them.
5. Lab reports and tests will make you want to switch majors.
There really is not much in the homework department, but I guarantee that the lab reports and the tests will not only having you pulling your hair out but contemplating switching majors. However, for anyone who truly belongs in this major, it will all be worth it in the end.
