Curly hair. It's something I've had since I was a toddler. My grandfather had those luscious locks, my mom has them, and I have them. I've struggled with accepting my hair for as long as I can remember. We all know the famous saying, "we want what we can't have." I've yearned my whole life to have straight hair with zero frizz. Little did I know this dream of mine was almost impossible.
Having curly hair is not only a lot to maintain but difficult to love.
1. Brushing dry hair is a no no
Don't ever brush curly hair; you become a lion with a very large mane.
2. When you do brush your hair, you get your daily arm workout
Who needs the gym to work on biceps? Have curly hair? Just comb and blow-dry your hair for a total arm work out. It's an arduous task. I've noticed my right arm has more strength (haha).
3. Finding the right products is near impossible
You spend hundreds of dollars testing which products you can and can't use for your unmanageable hair. When you do find the right products, it's very rewarding.
4. Rain and humidity are your worst enemy
You spend hours the night before wrestling with your hair to make sure you have that "perfect hair day." The second you walk outside, feel the humidity and raindrops, your hair puffs up and it's game over.
5. You're always told "Wear your hair natural it must be so pretty"
I am slowly learning to embrace my curls and go Au Naturale. It's also healthier for your hair.
6. Discovering professional straightening techniques for a new look and new you
Whether you use Keratin or other straightening formulas, the result will give you a more manageable outcome.
7. Your flat iron is your best friend
You don't go anywhere without it.
