7 Struggles All Content Creators Have With Muse
Lauren Frick

I am proud to write for Odyssey. I believe in democratizing content so that all voices are heard. Odyssey is a great platform for that, but all content creators know that writing an article can be frustrating when Muse glitches. We all share these seven struggles.

1. You lose your article halfway through. Poof. Gone.

This jaw dropping, wide eyed moment of terror has stricken us all at least once as we have scrambled to get in a last minute article and watched it disappear before our eyes. Just like that. Sometimes the revision history helps, sometimes not. After the third time this happened to me, I started writing my articles in other word processing programs and pasting them in just in case.

2. Your page views and social engagements don’t match up.

You have 44 social engagements on your article, and you get excited that so many people are seeing your article, but according to Muse, you have zero page views. Zero. Are that many people really sharing your article without reading it? I don’t think so. One of the primary motivations for writing for Odyssey is being heard, and when Muse tells you that you have zero page views on your latest article, it can be a bit depressing.

3. You can never get the images in your listicles aligned properly.

No matter how many times you click to edit the photo and select the option to center that one gif, it always aligns right after you try to hit enter and continue typing. It returns to its original dimensions, too. Sometimes, trying to write more after an image ruins the formatting for the entire article. You try deleting it and uploading it again, but it just doesn’t play nice with Muse.

4. The page refreshes while you are writing your article.

You were finally getting into the zone and pumping out your article when all of a sudden that red box pops up and the page refreshes. You have to log back into Muse and you’ve lost the moment. The rest of the article becomes a chore. The same goes for when your video uploads freeze and you have to restart.

5. Your scheduled shares get reset.

You exit your article and go back to make a last minute change. Then when Monday comes around you see that your article got published nowhere near the time you meant. Apparently Muse forgot your scheduled share when you made that change. Or it just flat out ignored you. Frustrating.

6. There is an excruciating delay for tags.

You typed in something simple like “cats,” for example, and have been sitting there waiting for Muse to bring up the suggested tags dropdown menu for at least a minute. Trying to delete what you typed and starting over makes the delay even longer. You either learn to be patient or give up on the tags altogether.

7. Muse never works on your phone.

Whether you are an android or iPhone person, you can never get Muse to load on your phone. Odyssey is centered around innovating news through social media optimization, and if you’ve ever checked under “sources” in Muse, you know that most of your page views are coming from mobile sites. If all our readers are going mobile, shouldn’t Muse too? Content creation would be so much easier with a streamlined mobile site for writing on the go.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
