When living life above six feet tall, it can certainly be a small world. People will comment on how tall I am, but few rarely understand the struggles that us tall people must face everyday. From flying in coach class to shopping for clothes, we have conflicts with the world around us because we simply do not fit -- pun intended. We can try and make the most of it, but in the end it still doesn't work out. There are major conflicts that temporarily prevent us from enjoying life and every person above 6' helplessly experiences them every day.
1. Sleeping
No matter how big a king size bed is, our feet will always hang off the edges. We can't help it. There is no such thing as a bed that fits us perfectly. Finding a bed that fits us perfectly? Stop pulling my leg -- it doesn't exist. Better grab the ZzzQuil because it's going to be a long night.
2. Bathrooms
We all know the struggle of having a shower head that stops at the chin. It leaves us to become Jason Bourne: being resourceful and using what we have to our advantages. We have to make the most of it. Finding a shower that actually dispenses water onto our heads is the equivalent of striking gold. We cherish and embrace it.
3. Shopping
Whether it's for shirts, pants, or shoes, be ready for us to take an afternoon searching for something that fits. Sometimes it easier to fill out a custom order for clothes. Finding pants in our sizes is rare, even non-existent sometimes. Need a pair of shoes for size 13? Good luck. Nearly every store carries sizes up to 12 -- might want to start developing that shrink ray for feet.
4. Sport Questions
Good luck dodging this one. This is something almost every tall individual must go through: the question, most commonly heard at family reunions and holidays. "Hey, do you play basketball?" Nope, never had an interest. Why does my height indicate that I play a sport? No matter how hard we try to avoid these questions, they will always manage to find us.
5. Classrooms
The place where we spend nearly our entire day is the most uncomfortable: the classroom. Sure, some desks can be built to properly fit tall people, but the other problem includes the desks in front of us. If there is a tall person sitting behind you, please do not push the desk back. Our knees will be crushed into our rib cage and we'll have to remain in that state for the next 50 minutes.
Being tall is something that cannot be avoided since we cannot fit into the world around us. Sure, we can make some elements work for us, but those are rare. Living as a person above six feet tall can easily make someone realize that it is definitely a small world after all.
