During finals week, all you can want in your life is to be at home, enjoying your summer and to just get out of the library. When the time comes to actually being home, it tends not to be what our overly tired, caffeinated minds thought it would be like. It definitely comes with some pros, like not eating pasta five times a week, not having to do your own laundry and for most of us having a dog to cuddle with. With these good things come the hard times too.
1. Saying bye to your college friends.
Granted, you are going home to your hometown friends that you have known since elementary school, but college friends are different. You basically live with them. For three months, you won't have those morning-after-going-out conversations about what the heck happened the night before. We all know those are the best and funniest conversations. They are there to listen to you complain, walk to class, study, go out and most importantly eat with. You don’t go a day without seeing them. If you do, then it's probably because you’ve been napping all day. So saying bye to your college family for months stinks and is quite depressing.
2. Finding a summer job.
Apparently, 'summer break' doesn't actually mean 'break.' It means get out of bed and find a job or an internship. You don't want to get one, but you know you need to so you can actually have fun next semester. Usually it is easy, but sometimes when you don't get that job at that random ice cream place in your hometown, it makes you question everything.
3. Your parents.
Summer break comes with parents. We all love our parents to death, but coming to live with them after being on your own for months isn’t so nice. It means them judging you for sleeping in past 10 a.m. and them asking about grades.
They ask what you did all day. Their friends ask about your future plans, You have to ask if you can go to a friend's house. When a couple days ago, you could roll out of bed at whatever time you wanted and walk over to you friend's apartment because either they left the door open or you know where the key is. No one asks where you are because most of the time you share your location with your friends so you never have to tell them.
4. Getting that last minute summer body.
The worst part is realizing throughout your boredom of sitting at home is how lazy you were at school. Having to now force yourself to go for a run or go to the gym because now you really have no excuse not to be in amazing shape.
Being away from college is not the best experience. Getting through it will
consist of using FaceTime your college friends, getting tagged in funny Instagram posts or a random photo on Facebook that says, "Tag someone that is an egg." You will wake up
to Snapchats from your friends saying, "I want to go back to school." You will catch up
with hometown friends and realize you wish you called them more often. The most important part of being home for three months is that if you
have a dog then cuddle with it as much as possible because that makes you
forget about all your friends and good times you are missing. The best part
about being home for the summer is you have three months for not being graded
on anything. Although unlike some professors, your parents are always going to
take attendance when it comes to dinnertime.
