Recently, my life has been consumed by not one, but TWO television shows: Grey's Anatomy, and The Walking Dead. Both are completely different, but equally addicting and heartbreaking.
Binge watching began during the rise of DVD box sets. With box sets, people could buy all of the seasons of a TV show and could watch them in one sitting. This mentality then grew with the popularity of Netflix streaming services.
Everyone has that ONE show. The show they live and breathe by, the show they can't wait for the next episode, the show where they simply can't get enough of. But, like any addiction, binge-watching comes with a consequence.
One of the struggles binge-watchers face is spoiler alerts! If you're behind on a show and something monumental happens, you do everything you can to avoid it. But, at the same time we can't help ourselves and end up reading about the spoiler alert anyway.
Another struggle is trying to catch up to a show by the time the next season airs. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to watch all twelve seasons of Grey's Anatomy in preparation for the present season.
One last struggle all binge-watchers face is budgeting time in your day to watch the show. Almost every spare moment has been filled with one of my shows. Every night, I ask myself the age old question, "one more episode or sleep?"
