I feel like being 19 is like being 12 all over again. Half of your friends are growing up so much and acting all mature-some people I know live on their own, have steady jobs, even are getting married and a few of my high school classmates already have babies. Like what? Then there's the other half, who are out late playing Pokemon Go and still living at home with no idea how to get a job or go to college. There's obviously pros and cons to both-you don't want to grow up too fast and throw away your childhood, but you also don't want to be the one left behind when everyone else is accomplishing big things.
Am I the only one who can't fit myself into either category? I'm both the most mature and least mature person I know. If you also have the struggle of being in the middle, you can probably relate to this list of the struggles of being simultaneously super mature and super not.
1. You can do some things on your own without a problem, but others totally freak you out.
Don't even ask me why, but I can totally take a train in the city in the middle of the night by myself and not even be phased, but scheduling my own doctors appointment? Nope. Sorry. Can't.
2. You love babysitting because it seems super mature, but you get to hang out with kids and act like one sometimes.
Not gonna lie, I love babysitting because it's the perfect excuse to watch Pokemon and go on the swings at the park.
3. When you really need to get down to business, you can, but 99% of the time you're messing around.
I will pull an all nighter to finish my paper and turn something in on time that is really great and well thought out, but I wouldn't have had to pull the all nighter if I hadn't spent all afternoon and evening lip syncing to old music.
4. You switch gears in the blink of an eye.
I can be arguing politics with you one second and then I'll remember a funny video I saw on YouTube and burst out laughing. Then I'll go back to schooling you on the real issues.
5. Your teachers and other adults think you're super responsible and reserved all the time, but your friends know the truth.
Your friends laugh every time your teacher comments on your organization or your boss says you're quiet and hard working.
6. As soon as you see your friends, everything changes.
In your first class of the day, you are quiet, keep to yourself, and work hard. The next class you have with your best friend, so naturally you talk the whole time and make jokes.
7. You think you would make an awesome politician or serious actor.
Imagine everyone seeing you on TV and thinking Wow, she's so stern and smart, then they go to your Twitter and see all the memes you post every day. So #relatable.
8. You're the middle man.
You help your friends talk to their parents and teachers because you can see things from both perspectives.
9. One second you want to grow up, and the next you're terrified.
Yeah, I totally wanna get married in the next year. Or like ten years. Depends on the day.
I honestly think us immature mature people have the best of both worlds. We're smart and can have deep conversations and have responsibilities, but we can also always laugh at ourselves and know when to turn off the seriousness. I think this is the best way to be.
