You're Stronger than You Think

"I’m not one to thank life for hitting me with hard times, but I am one to be proud of myself for getting through them"

You're Stronger than You Think

Hi friends,

I’ve been doing some thinking lately (naturally), and I just want to share some love. Life, of course, has it’s cycles. Sometimes you have highs; sometimes you have lows. I spent the last few years with the unrealistic expectation that life was inherently supposed to be going smoothly and that when a curveball came at me, it was an obstacle messing with my perfect life. Why couldn’t things just be perfect all of the time? They’re supposed to be perfect.

Oh, sweet, naive, innocent child.

Life needs to be embraced in its fullest. Life can be what you make it, but just because you react to something in a positive way or negative way doesn’t change the fact that bad things are inevitably going to happen along with the good things. So, when something bad happens, don’t roll up in bed or go cry in a corner. Emotions are good, and I’m not saying to stifle them, but don’t let a bad situation engulf your entire life.

If you’re old enough to read this, you’ve already overcome things. Whether you had someone you love pass away, parted ways with a friend, moved homes, felt the sting of heartbreak, etc., you have felt pain, and you have survived. It doesn’t matter how close you felt to losing all purpose, you’re still here, and you’re stronger…because of you. Because YOU held on, because YOU fought through it all just to keep breathing, because YOU knew your strength even if it was just at a subconscious level.

Life is going to continue to throw things at you, and you’re going to continue to wish it wouldn’t have. I’m not even remotely about to throw you the line, “but you’re better because of it”…because, let’s be real here, you probably would’ve been just fine without your pet hamster dying or without your best friend hooking up with your ex. I’m not one to thank life for hitting me with hard times, but I am one to be proud of myself for getting through them.

So, give some credit where it’s due. YOU deserve a pat on the back because even if you currently feel like you’re drowning in a difficult situation, you’re still here. You’re still alive, you’re still fighting, you’re still moving through the days, telling the world that you are unbreakable, telling the world that despite what it has done to you, YOU are still standing, YOU are still trying, YOU are still going to get through this.

Always remember, you’ve conquered so much already; even if you felt like you haven’t. And that is something to be proud of.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
