The election is coming up soon, 141 days to be exact. The most established, significant and powerful position in the entire world is left to be filled by one of two people. We're going to put a spotlight on the controversial, though not as controversial as her opponent, democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. No matter what your qualms are about Hillary. Or how you feel about politics in general. It's worth looking at her credentials and actions, then considering logically whether or not she should really be the next president of these United States.
Hillary Clinton
Hillary is many things. Some would contend she's a schemer, untruthful, shady even. Others would hail her as intelligent, respectable and the one for the job. No matter what your personal perspectives are of the politician, there are some attributes about her you simply cannot deny. Let's look at the credentials shall we?
Hillary is a graduate of Wesley College and Yale Law School. Upon graduation, she served as an attorney, a professor at the University of Arkansas, and Arkansas first lady. Fast forward 10 years later and she has become the First Lady of the United States under the administration of her husband, Bill Clinton. A lot of Americans tend to link Hillary and Bill together, and understandably so since they are in fact married. And marriage means two become one right? Not necessarily.
It would be most unjust to insinuate that Bill's administration and actions before and after, is the sole reason for the success in Hillary's career. She alone has proven herself before Bill, and certainly after Bill. Her time as the first lady was spent progressively working towards health care and facing arduous everyday tasks of helping to run the country. Behind every powerful man is indeed a strong woman (that's where the marital phrase "two become one" comes into play people). Fast forward again, to the 2000 U.S Senate election for New York, to which Hillary won and served nine years. Hop into 2008 and it's the presidential election, after falling short and losing to Obama, she is appointed Secretary Of State. An extremely vital job to which she has been condemned and said not to have fulfilled honorably.
Cue the insults, heckling, and misogynist slander
First word: Benghazi. A lot of youths don't know much about it, if anything. Essentially, this is what transpired: On September 11, 2012 some Islamist militants made an attack on a diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. This resulted in a U.S ambassador and three other Americans dead. The thing is that Hillary was in charge of the state department, and her decisions after played a huge role. The main issue was that Benghazi was being painted into something it might not have been. Originally, some top U.S. officials, as well as many media outlets, reported that the Benghazi attack was a "spontaneous protest triggered by an anti-Muslim video". However, further investigations would claim it was triggered by an organized terrorist group. Three years later, in 2015, Hillary was hounded further in a trial where she testified for 11 hours. Yet she came out, for the most part quite unscathed. This event is usually the first thing people mention when they say they don't trust Hillary.
Second word: Emails. People get a kick out of this now but at the time, it was an extremely serious matter. You've probably seen jokes about it on Twitter and on TV if you flip to SNL. As seen in the link, they hone in on her shady actions to get a laugh out of America. What it comes down to, though, is that one of the most powerful people that help lead this country, who now wants to run the entire country, was using a personal email instead of a government issued one which monitors what is received and sent out. She then deleted 30,000 emails connected to that account. Very peculiar right? More like deceitful if you ask a lot of Americans.
So the question remains. Should Hillary Clinton be the 45th president of the United States? Had this been a different election, with a more suitable opponent, I would contend that far more in-depth scrutiny is needed to decide the answer to this question. But let's be real. We only have two options: either a former secretary of state, first lady of Arkansas and the United States and senator of New York. Or, an intolerable racist, obnoxious reality star, and successful businessman from Queens, New York. It is true that Trump certainly has made gains in his life, and he has his expertise. In addition, he is a very tenacious and determined candidate. We know for sure if he becomes President this man will not be backing down or letting fear hinder him. Which I must say, are qualities that we should want in a president. However, we must be logical and ultimately decide to place the safety and future of our country, and our personal lives, into the hands of someone who is experienced, highly educated, proper and reasonable. If that means Hillary Clinton is the next president of these united states, then so be it.
