An Ebola study called STRIVE, Sierra Leone Trial to Introduce a Vaccine Against Ebola, began in March in Guinea, African, one of the African nations at the heart of the recent outbreak. This trial is unblinded, which means participants will know if they received the Ebola vaccine or not. Ebola has killed more than 11,000 people from December 2013 until now, while infecting thousands more. It quickly became a massive public health scare as it entered more and more countries. Scientists were baffled at what to do. Because of how quickly the virus spreads, a vaccine was nearly impossible.
Dr. Margaret Chan, the body’s general director, said the vaccine is "highly effective,” and although the trial is just in it’s beginning stages, it has shown 100 percent efficacy.
