Stressing Out? No Worries!

Take it from someone that's been there

Stressing Out? No Worries!

As of lately, I've found myself struggling with the concept of time. I've found that there aren't enough hours in the day, yet the days seem to be moving as slowly as ever. Every minute has been frequently booked, and I haven't been able to take any time for myself. A noticeable part of my identity has been taken from me and a lot of it has to do with time management. So here are some ways that I've started to deal with my time management.

1.Take a deep breath

Just for a fresh perspective, stop and take an elongated breath of fresh air. Everything will fall into place if you allow it to. Take the time to relax and take up yoga if need be. Just find some way to make yourself relaxed.

2. Do one thing a day that is true to yourself.

Even if it's just for a minute or two. Don't allow your sense of self to completely disappear. Try to do something you love. For instance, if you enjoy reading, make sure to open a book and get some reading done. Just don't lose your identity.

3. Find a release.

Blow off steam. Go to the gym or go on a run. Even just go to your room and take a nap. It doesn't need to be big, just find something. Remember to care of yourself in the process.

4.Take a day for yourself.

Lately, it seems like every day has been extremely busy. A friend of mine recently took a much-needed day off and was more refreshed and ready to learn as ever. Sometimes your body and mind just need to rest to ensure recovery.

5. Don't get caught up in the small things.

Try to brush off the insignificant parts of your day. Focus on the bigger picture and don't allow a small altercation to throw off the rest of your day. Keep on moving forward and you will thrive.

6. Meet up with familiar faces when you have the chance.

Sometimes seeing a friend can just help you feel better and help keep you in a stable mindset. It helps to recognize friends and they'll know how to get you out of any funk you might be in.

7. Don't take on more than you can handle.

Although it's much easier said than done, know yourself and get to know your limitations. When your body is telling you that you need to take a break, listen to it. The more you ignore the warning signs, the more likely you are to feel sick and unruly.

I definitely took on way too much this semester and am severely suffering the consequences. I'm currently living on a strict day-by-day basis and it can become overwhelming. Although you may want to get as involved as possible, always remember to keep your mental and physical health in mind before making too many commitments.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
