College is one of the most important stages in our lives. Throughout these formative years, many students find themselves learning how to cope with the new stress and responsibilities that come with becoming a real adult. Dealing with stress in a healthy way is one of the number one skills when it comes to a being happy college student. If you are extremely stressed (like me!), here are some of my tips to you.

Bye bye procrastination. Pretty obvious tip. Worrying about grades or being overwhelmed is the main cause of stress and anxiety for almost every college student. The key is to plan out what needs to be done as opposed to relying on your own motivation to not procrastinate. Leave yourself reminders on a calendar, sticky notes, planner, just basically everywhere. Think of something you can reward yourself with, whether its new clothes or Netflix. If you reward yourself it will keep you more motivated in the future.

Remember to plan room in your busy schedule to do activities that you enjoy. One of the number one ways to get rid of stress is to do things that are fun for you, whether this is hanging out with friends or taking some time to paint, sing or write. If you love it then make time for it.

Exercise your stress away! Even if you are not a fan of the gym, it can majorly reduce stress. Even jumping rope, taking a Zumba class or going for a walk at the park will get your endorphins going and start to relax your mind and body. Exercise will help you sleep better and for even help you feel better regardless of stress

Talk to a friend, roommate, parent, school counselor, etc. If you're feeling overwhelmed, talk to someone you trust! Odds are, they have probably been through a similar experience and can offer help to overcome your stress. Talking to someone else can also distract you from whatever is bothering you for a few minutes. Also, most colleges offer free counseling, which I utilize at my school and highly recommend.

If you can't avoid that feeling of stress by taking steps to prevent it, then deal with it in the most healthy and best way you can. Although being stressed out can cause you to feel overwhelmed or discouraged, it's important to remember that you will get through this and use these helpful tips. Work will not do itself, and the more time you waste stressing over school assignments and busy schedules, the less you can get done. Try taking a moment to close your eyes and realize that everything will be okay in the end, and even the hardest times don't last.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
