Hey everyone, as I sit here thinking about the upcoming holiday season (while listening to my newly created Google Play Christmas playlist which is just, well, great), I'm pondering how best to describe that this looming season of giving should include not only your loved ones but you!
Listen, family togetherness is difficult. Reuniting with old friends from home can be awkward, and the end of the year is just a stressful time in general. This time of year is absolutely a time of giving, but I feel as though the stigma of the season has started to shame anything but selflessness in recent years. This can be stressful. People feel as though they have to spread their love so thin, as to make sure that everyone feels included.
The danger in this, however, is that you yourself might be the one who gets neglected. Yes, so many of us are so fortunate in our lives and giving back is a wonderful way to show our love and appreciation for our communities, families and loved ones; yet, showing ourselves a little self-love could also go a long way.
Like I said above, this season is full of out-of-the-norm encounters, and that can certainly take a toll on your psyche. That being said, this season is focused around love, and the person who deserves the most of your love is you!! Take advantage of this cheery time of year to show yourself some love. This is the most wonderful time of the year after all, and it would be such a waste for it to be stressed away.
Basically, what I am trying to say is: don't let the pressure of this holiday season get to you. Know that this is a jolly yet stressful time for all of us, and you deserve to participate in some of that spirit! Instead of stressing about white elephants and stocking-stuffers, maybe take a night and watch your favorite Christmas movie, and save the worry about the family Christmas card for another day.
