25 Tunes For Your November Playlist To Help Us Make It To Winter Break

Let's all turn to music in our times of stress.

As the seasons change, so do a lot of people's taste in music. Below is a list of both older and newer songs that I've carefully compiled to create a laid-back playlist, perfect for this time of the school year. This compilation is for any of those music-junkies, like myself, who are constantly walking around campus with earbuds in. It's a cool, calm, and collective collection just in time for that late-semester stress everyone's feeling as we near towards finals.

I fully believe music can have a major impact on our feelings, stress levels, and just our day to day lives overall. It's a healthy coping mechanism to resort to and a way to make yourself connect to artists going through the same things as you. Hopefully, these tracks will be able to calm any nerves anyone has and will allow you to treat yourself to a "you day." These may be some of my personal fall favorites, but I hope that everyone can find at least one song on this list that truly resonates with them.

1. "We're Going to Be Friends" — The White Stripes

If this song doesn't bring you back to your carefree elementary school days, I don't know what will.

2. "Better Together" — Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson's "Banana Pancakes" is also an adorable tune to listen to while making breakfast on a fall morning.

3. "Sweater Weather" — The Neighbourhood

"Sweater Weather" is absolutely, without a doubt, the epitome of an autumn track.

4. "Another One" — Mac Demarco

5. "The Gambler" — fun.

6. "Sex in the City" — Hobo Johnson

This is the song that made me such a fan of Hobo Johnson... what a character that dude is.

7. "The Moon Song" — Karen O

Although Karen O's "The Moon Song" is absolutely stellar, the film version of this track, from the movie "Her," is even more so. I'd recommend checking out both the original version and the one sung by Scarlett Johansson and Joaquin Phoenix.

8. "Face" — Brockhampton

9. "Pink Matter" — Frank Ocean

10. "Mary" — Yellow Ostrich

Let it be heard that everything does turn around!

11. "From the Dining Table" — Harry Styles

I may be biased from my love for Harry Styles, but this is still a beautiful song to put on while studying or walking around campus.

12. "Hostage" — Billie Eilish

13. "Skinny Love" — Birdy

The original by Bon Iver is also quite lovely to listen to.

14. "The Good Side" — Troye Sivan

15. "Breezeblocks" — alt-J

A great bop to listen to while walking outside from class to class.

16. "Funtimes in Babylon" — Father John Misty

17. "Bless The Telephone" — Labi Siffre

18. "Paper Houses" — Niall Horan

19. "Rhode Island" — The Front Bottoms

As a college student in Rhode Island, and a New Englander overall, this song is perfectly suiting for my Sunday drives back to campus from my CT home.

20. "Bloom" — The Paper Kites

This is a lovely little song, able to calm any nerves or stress that one may have.

21. "Smithereens" — Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots is not normally a band I would classify as having "chill vibes," but this song off of their new album, "Trench," is quaint and cute for listening to on a fall afternoon.

22. "Solo" — Samsa

23. "Fallingforyou" — The 1975

Hands down one of the best songs to put on as background music while doing homework or for when you're trying to fall asleep.

24. "Sycamore Girl" — Rex Orange County

25. "November" — Tyler, The Creator

Because my November is (literally) right now.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
