As summer comes to an end, classes are coming to a start. I hate to say that summer is ending, but I am happy for fall to begin. Fall as in the season, not fall as in classes, homework, working out, organizations, vlogging, yoga classes, kick boxing and working. At least, that's what I have going on this next semester. So here we go... time to stress out!
Anyone who knows me knows that I strive to be a very organized person, but also knows that my life can seem like a hilarious meme sometimes. I like to pretend that I know what I am doing, and I strongly believe in the saying, "Fake it until you make it."
To be honest, on the outside, I look like an organized person. I look like I live such a cool life (not to say I don't, because I think I do live a cool life), but it's so much more difficult to handle all this cool stuff than it looks like.
1. Classes and Homework.
I absolutely love learning, and sometimes I adore being in the library. It's only when the credits that I am taking all start to pile up that the stressing begins. I'm alright sitting in a classroom for an hour and a half (or three hours if it's a night class), and I am alright doing homework assignments.
Now that all the classes I am taking are classes I want to take (god bless being done with gen eds), I am excited to do homework I will actually like doing. I just hate that when it all piles up, I can no longer enjoy my blogging assignments or creative assignments because it becomes more of a hassle to get everything done in time than it does to enjoy the time I am spending on things I like doing. Stressing over here.
2. Working out.
I like gyms. I like seeing people making progress and accomplishing what the hoped to. Working out only stresses me out because I have to find time to do it. Once I'm on an elliptical or squatting or running or cardio-ing, I'm alright. I feel good. I feel healthy. I love the drink of water you get after a workout. Everything about it feels good. So here I am stressing about the time commitment working out takes.
3. Organizations.
One day I felt like I was not involved in enough things... so what did I do? Joined every organization that I thought I could possibly enjoy being a part of. This was a lengthy process to find ones I was passionate about.
Some I dropped, and some I got a higher position in. Odyssey is one of my most favorite things I am a part of because I get to write about fun things and read about fun things. It lets everyone's creative side show and I absolutely love everything about Odyssey.
I joined the Creightonian team this semester, and although I have only a small editorial position, I am excited to work with newspapers, as I would like to work with magazines one day. PRSSA is another organization I am proud to say I am a part of as I love all the opportunities it has offered me and my friends.
I am so so excited to take on an actual position in PRSSA and work my way up to being more of a professional. I am sure I will find more things to be a part of, as I have a hard time holding back from being a part of things that look fun. I do this to myself because I love it, but there's so much going on all the time that it's hard not to stress.
4. Vlogging.
I am new to vlogging, but it seems fun. Thanks to one of my favorite professor's social media class, I have learned how to successfully create a brand for myself. I will be starting a motor vlog this year on the Honda Grom 125cc motorcycle that I have.
I will be riding it, talking about whatever comes to mind, and most likely showing you videos of me petting lots of puppies. The name is Clutch Puppy, and catch me having lots of fun, but also stressing about editing videos and posting them on time.
5. Yoga Classes.
I always see people on Instagram posting about the yoga class they just got out of or how much yoga has benefitted them. One day, I got an email telling me when these classes would take place. So I said to myself, "Why the heck not!?"
Actually, it sounded more like, "Yes, Hannah, let's add more things and events to your to-do list... you're crazy." I may stress even more about finding the time to do this, but isn't the point of yoga to de-stress and become more aware of beautiful things in nature?
6. Kick Boxing.
This one is hilarious. I saw a convincing ad that had the stopping power to make me look up this kick boxing place and really consider taking some lessons. This would give me an excuse to buy cute Victoria's Secret Sport workout pants and sport bras, which is always great.
Plus, I am not a very strong person, and I would like to build some muscle by wearing cool gloves and punching and kicking a punching bag and to look great while doing it. I will probably stress about this too, but who cares it's gonna be fun.
7. Work.
Somehow, in some great way, a job found me this summer. Yes, I was an intern for a small magazine for a little while, but let's just say it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Then, one day, I began working at American Laboratories, Inc. as a summer intern. Everyone who I work with is absolutely wonderful in the best of ways. My job even sometimes consists of me getting to hang out with my bosses dogs.
Although I was just a summer intern who did the most random of projects, I have learned a lot and even gained some experience to add to my portfolio. It sucks so much that I cannot work full time during the semester, or even sometimes during the week (due to all I have going on already), but I would enjoy visiting them on breaks and maybe getting some hours in.
So, my solution to this all?
I don't have one, but I can tell you this:
Go to your classes and learn as much as you can. Know that it is okay to miss the occasional class to catch up on homework or to even go to some fun event you had planned. Do your homework on time and stay ahead of it. You will stress about classes and homework much less if you are on top of it and on your A-game.
If you are like me, you go workout every once in a while. Make a consistent routine on what days and for how long and what you will do each time you workout. I have found time before my classes twice a week to do so, which has helped me stress less about having time to do this.
Enjoy the organizations you are a part of more than you worry about having to attend every meeting and event. Love what your organization is doing, and do your best to be a big part of it.Get adventurous. Stay on your feet.
Do something different than you have done before, and see where it takes you. For me, this is motor vlogging abut the Grom and puppies. Do one or two things just because you think it will be fun. Cross the stressful bridges when you get to them. For me, I chose yoga classes and kick boxing.
Work your ass off to get to where you want to be. Whether it's an internship, full-time job, part-time job, etc. just work hard. Work hard so that you can play hard. I have no solution to stop all the stress a large to-do list entails. You will stress sometimes, and know that that's okay. But try and not be so stressed all the time, try and just be happy about where your life is now and where it will be going in the near future. Be optimistic, and enjoy being young.
