The biggest difference about moving into the dorms is privacy. The privacy to get angry, to scream, to call friends and family, and to be your dumb stupid happy self. Especially during midterms, a month or two into school, things can get really stressful. It can suck, but there are definitely ways to make it all okay.

1. Be vulnerable.

Sounds scary right? But really, you're stuck with one to three people for a whole year in one little room. Might as well talk to them, and the best way is straight up transparency. It really is difficult, and you definitely won't get there right away, but getting a hug from someone who is four feet away from you feels so nice.

2. Say hi to your dorm staff!

I always see one of the staff, Bertha, in the morning, and saying good morning or hello to her is such a highlight of the day. She gets happy. I get happy. It's a great way to start off the morning.

3. Go into the common room to work.

Seems kind of counterproductive, but getting even a few feet out of your room can make you so much more productive. Sometimes you just need a change of environment — I mean unless it's really wild in there. In that case, try exploring your building a bit! Find little hallways where it's quieter because being in your room too much can be both distracting and suffocating. Don't forget to bring your blanket and slides!

4. Take a nap.

I'm not sure how many people realize how useful a quick power nap can be. Instead of watching Facebook videos for 20 minutes, take a nap. With how sleep deprived students are anyways, it's a perfect way to rejuvenate a bit. And stay off that third cup of coffee!

5. Skype your closest friend!

Keeping in contact with distanced friends is, well, difficult, but honestly, they would still love to chat with you after some months of sparse contact. Looking back on the past can feel great and put you in a great mood. But really, don't get too hung up on it. Live in the present, because you deserve it.

6. Make some mac and cheese with your roomies at 12 a.m.

It's easy, simple, microwavable, and satisfying. What more can I say?

7. Own those pajamas and live it up.

Walk around in your pajamas, messy hair, and glasses because who cares what other people think. Be confident in yourself, and it will show in all other aspects. Does it really matter what that one person down the hall thinks? Come next school year, you'll never see them again, and they'll be left with the memory of a person living for themselves.

8. It's okay to not be okay.

Give yourself time to just sulk in bed, because honestly being positive and productive with everything going on is unrealistic. Eat that tub of ice cream and binge the new series of "Stranger Things."Just do not push those feelings away.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
