How Stress Is Stressing Me Out
The Imaginative Conservative

It is not easy being a student, athlete, working a job, having a social life, and balancing all of these things at the same time. Being an active college student, there is so much we have to get done in a certain amount of time. Whether that is homework, a job, a project, grocery runs, errands, etc. Where do we get all the time to do this stuff and be able to eat, sleep, and rest? That is something some of the smartest and most organized people do not have the answer to.

Stress, we are told, is a normal thing. We should have a healthy amount of stress so we can learn and grow as adults and mature citizens of our world. But what is a healthy amount of stress? Because personally, I think all of us could agree that stress is in no way healthy. It leads to me wanting to pull my hair out or punch a wall, which is in no way healthy. Stress is hard and stress is something that we all struggle with.

Stress can be as simple as having a long to-do list, getting a bad grade on a test, or having an argument with a friend. Stress follows us everywhere no matter how much we want to avoid it, but I am here to tell you that stress can be handled and can be dealt with.

For some of us, we like to do things on our own. We like to take over the job and do it ourselves because no one can do the job better than ourselves. Well, Mr. or Mrs. I Can Do Everything On My Own, take a breather and realize that asking for help does not mean weakness. Asking for help shows bravery and proof that everyone needs help and even you can’t accomplish everything on your own.

Stress is a test. It is a life test that teaches us how to be better leaders, bosses, managers, CEO’s, owners, etc. Some of the most brilliant and successful people in the world went through enormous amounts of stress to get where they are and they made it through. Something to keep in mind is stress management. When you are feeling overwhelmed and like the world is crashing down, do things you love to bring you back down to earth. Go for a run, eat a candy bar, hug your girlfriend/boyfriend, go for a drive, etc. Stress is everywhere and never ending, so let's deal with it together.

Here I am complaining about stress and sympathizing with you because I too get stressed out and want to blow up, but that is why I am here writing this to you. We all feel better when we have people to relate to and I am someone that is hear telling you I’m with ya on this one. Like I said, stress is a b*tch and boy, do we love to complain about it, but be better than the stress and rise above it so we can succeed like the rest of the others that dealt with stress like us.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
