Stress Has An Upside

Game plan for when the stress level keeps going up this semester.

Stress Has An Upside

Stress is craziness, tension, pressure and feeling very overwhelmed all at once as your heat beat pounds faster with every worry. Being time for the semester to start back up I’m sure everyone is getting prepared for the stress levels to raise.

But what if this semester we don’t let the stress affect us in a bad way? There are different ways to look at stress. Study shows it isn’t stress that kills people, it’s the belief that stress is harmful. Reshaping how you think about stress can reshape your body’s response.

Kelly McGonigal, challenged the conventional view that stress is bad in her TED Talk, “How to Make Stress Your Friend.” When you change your mind about stress you can change how your body reacts. We need to learn to embrace that feeling of being overwhelmed and use it to our advantage, if we think stress is bad for our health, it will be. The mind set makes a difference.

When things get crazy this semester just try to remember what that feeling can do for you. I get more work done when I’m stressed because being on a time crunch which makes me finally stop protonating and get everything done.

When you view the stress response as helpful, you will become less stressed, and more confident. The next time your stress levels are rising, think about it as your body preparing you for the challenge, and get prepared to face it head on.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
