Tips On Dealing With Stress In College

Stress in college is a given, stress can be from all of your compiled homework, exams, or from your grades going into a downward spiral. However, when in college stress can come from more than just schoolwork. Stress can come from life in general, or come from issues going on back home, or it can come from any personal issues that you may be dealing with such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.

Here are 7 tips for you to use whenever you are feeling stressed out, or you just need a break from everything crazy going on.

1. Exercise. I know that we here this one a lot, but this tip is the one I recommend the most. Not only does exercise release endorphins, it gives you something to channel all of your negative energy on. You can go for a run, lift some weights, or do interval training or yoga. There is an option for everyone!

2. Pet puppies. For me one of the most therapeutic things can be playing with puppies, or any animal. Try going to a local animal shelter in your town and spend a few hours playing with some of those adorable pups, it will temporarily help you forget about what is stressing you out.

3. Go for a walk. If you suddenly find yourself feeling stressed out, go for a walk. Walk around campus, even if it is for a quick 5 minutes. Getting your blood flowing and circulating throughout your body will help you feel calm and even make you feel more energized.

4. Stretch. Take a break from studying, and stretch. Your body will thank you. Stress can cause your muscles to be tense. Help relieve some of that stress and take a stretch break.

5. Nap. Sometimes when we get a little stressed out, a nap is answer. It won't make your problems go away, but it can help you feel well rested and rejuvenated.

6. Do something whit your friends. When you're feeling stressed out, chances are some of your friends are to. So get a group of your closest friends together and go do something fun! Whether it's watching a movie, going on a hike, or my personal favorite making a trip to cookout.

7. Laugh. This is the simplest tip that I can give you. When you laugh it reases endorphins in your brain, which can make you happier and more positive. So if your feeling down, just think of it as laughing the stress away.

College is stressful, but you don't have to let that stress bother you, so go for a run, take a nap, or have a really good laugh!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
