Stratification Contemplation
The thought that we are all connected like strings in a beautiful tapestry has been a strong contemplation for a long time. I even wrote a beautiful story about this tapestry of our lives called 'The Weaver and the tapestry' about how we are all made in God’s image and therefore we are all working towards his grand design of one wonderful united piece of art. (I can share it with you if you like.) The idea that there are people on the other end of the string floundering around for a subsistence life is heart breaking to me. The people that need help the most are completely ignored because the majority of the population just looks at the pretty side of the tapestry. The ability to ignore the plight of others is an affront to humanity. “What you do unto the least of these you do unto me.”
How on earth can we complain about ANYTHING? Seriously! There are so many blessing that abound around us. In America we are very spoiled wasting so much energy being upset over the hotness of our latte or rather or not we had it our way at Burger King that there is a tendency not to realize how truly blessed we are. We stand on our hardened principals such as democracy or religion that are in truth so weak when you face the fact that our principals are just truly based in greed. That we as a society are only interested in perpetuating our very own self-interest. The call for equality is very perverse. There is no such thing as equal in a society which is always trying to measure up to some misbegotten idea of perfection. Politicians, celebrity’s and a myriad of other people spend outlandish amounts of money on material belongings. The Real Housewives of New York’s Jill Zoran spent $16,000 on a purse. It made me so mad because that is more than we had made in that year all together so I stopped watching that show. It has always been crazy to me that people spend so much money on stuff. These items of junk I doubt makes them truly happy and or fills a basic need within them besides a fleeting moment of “mine! Its mine!” Soon after the next acquisition is pressing in our heads to get us to consume even more resources and make more out of nothing. One thing is for sure is, “That you can’t take it with you when you go to eternity anyway.” There should be a bigger emphasis on the weight our souls carry instead of the shallow depth of a bank account. Why that on a purse? When I can get one for around $20 at a store let alone what that $20 can do for a child dealing with absolute poverty. While the haves in our society claim to care for the little man they spend frivolously on themselves leaving the little man to fend for himself. I don’t think that anyone is just entitled to have what anyone else has earned through their very own hard work but how about a percentage given to any charity to help those in need. Then you have to contemplate the way most charities use the bulk of their donations to cover operating cost which makes people not want to give at all. Why don’t the haves minority make changes in our society that are so necessary to help the poor majority thrive? The extremely rich have no need to peer down at us lowly working poor trying to claw our way to staying on the ladder or at least not drop down yet another wrung. This is survival of the fittest at its most economic base. Does having that much money make you blind or unfeeling? That could be due to the fact that “you stick to your kind” so they tend not to actually see any of the horrors of the world. This form of socialization tends to keep groups separated from each other instead of being joined to all of humanity. We begin this so early in life the minute we begin to compare ourselves to others, that in and of its self leads us to try and do the math that leaves someone or ourselves as below par. Trying to find a place to belong in our own stratosphere we tend to reinforce the existing stratification of wrongness. Once we realize that, it is up to us to extrapolate negatives from the stratification equation and add positives so that our society gets better. Give when and where you can to those less fortunate too.
