The Real Problem With Straight Pride Is That Equality Is NOT Always The Answer

They have gay pride, so we can have straight pride, right?

Equality. The word that so many people use to validate their arguments. If they have this, then so can I. Because equality is just about having the same things, right? They have gay pride, so we can have straight pride, right? Wrong. Equality is about having equal opportunities, about being treated the same, about not having to worry about being kicked out of your home when you have to reveal something about yourself you can't even control. The people who want a straight pride parade clearly do not understand what equality is and how having a parade can't make it happen. The minds of people have to open up, and that does not come easily. A straight pride parade would just allow people to continue with their ignorant beliefs.

Straight people have no way of understanding what a person in the LGBTQ+ community goes through. They do not deal with the same struggles or feelings. Their lack of understanding can create fear or repulsion. Having pride is a way to eliminate the fears that people have. To show them how colorful and beautiful the community is. What is the reason for straight pride? What purpose does it serve other than to mock real pride?

Being straight is what is "normal" or expected in the world. People literally have to "come out" to their families and friends and wait to either be accepted or rejected. Having this parade and community is sometimes the only place where people can be themselves. It gives them a group of people that will accept them no matter what because the fear of being shunned is constant. I don't see any straight people being disowned because of who they choose to love.

Straight pride is not only unnecessary but it is harmful to the actual LGBTQ+ movement. It should not be happening.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
