While I am writing this, I have just come back from a fire drill. This might not be very seem like an exciting story to tell, but everything is exciting on a college campus. As of this semester, we have had at least 6 fire alarms and they were either drills or from popcorn. It has gotten to the point that popcorn should be illegal in residence halls because it smells like something is burning.
Imagine being in bed, cozy and ready to sleep. Then, at 9pm the first alarm sounds and you have to go outside when it's 20 degrees. 20 minutes later, you go back in. Settle down and get cozy for the second time. Then again at 11 and 12. With classes the next day, the whole residence hall was not impressed to say the least.
Now, today, a Saturday, when barely no one is here. The alarm sounds again but no one is in an urge to leave because it has become a reflex to no rush. I believe the fire alarm should not be used more than once because people can get used to the drills that when an actual fire is happening, no one will be eager to get out. It's good to know what to do, but doing it too much will cause problems.
