With Kesha's legal struggles, it's been a few long years since we have last heard any new tunes from the singer, but the wait is finally over. Kesha released "Praying" and "Woman" ahead of her new album, "Rainbow," out August 11.
I was so curious and excited to see what Kesha would do next after being legally barred from recording new music for so long due to her ongoing issues with Dr. Luke. While I think "Praying" is an important song and I support the message, musically, it's not as much my style. "Woman," however, I haven't been able to stop listening to on repeat.
Kesha has been known for saying she wants to make music that helps people have a good time, and "Woman" definitely delivers on this promise. It's a funky girl power anthem, signaling that Kesha is absolutely poised to make her comeback.
In a personal essay, she described the process of writing the song and how her new record will take greater cues from the artists she admires and listens to most, rather than her dance music beginnings.
Kesha has been through a lot in the past few years with the very public lawsuits over abuse allegations with Dr. Luke, and it's so exciting that she is showing all of us that she didn't let it crush her wild spirit. We are certainly getting a different, more mature Kesha than the one we knew before who was brushing her teeth with a bottle of Jack, but she has gone through this ordeal and come out on the other side with the same message of positivity. She isn't letting her trials and tribulations get her down, and I think that's something to admire and celebrate. I find that incredibly inspiring and can't wait to hear the rest of her new album.
