Nobody wants to wait anymore

Today's society has become one of wanting things immediately. With the increases in technology, we are used to having everything at our fingertips. We want to know things immediately and think we deserve instant gratification for everything in our lives.

We have set this up through things like social media. People are happy when they post their pictures and thoughts and get likes and comments immediately. We put too much into what others think of us and that's detrimental to our mental health. We care too much about what is happening in the instant that we do not realize how it affects us long-term.

Stop waiting for somebody else's approval. You do not need it. Be confident in yourself and your abilities to be successful. The only person you truly need to please is yourself. As cliche as it sounds, it does not matter what other people think. Ignore the judgments of others and stop waiting for the attention that comes from praise. You are amazing and you do not need anybody else to tell you that.

Everybody enjoys having some sort of gratification for the things that they do and that is normal. When you work hard, you want to be acknowledged. Delayed gratification can be more impactful and feel better than any form of instant gratification. Be patient. If somebody is still thinking about what you have done after it has happened, that means you did well enough to leave an impression. That is much more powerful than in the instant. It is easy for me to tell you to stop wanting instant gratification. I know how difficult it is to break this habit but it is possible. Be confident in what you want instead of wanting things that you only get acknowledgment for. Know that you have a strong support system and that people are proud of you even if they do not tell you all the time. Focus on your goals for yourself and stick to them.

Be patient. Believe in yourself. Wait for what you deserve.

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
