It seems like at almost all points in our lives, we are looking forward to what's to come next. There's always a better future ahead or something more exciting to look forward to than what's actually going on in the moment.
When we're young and in elementary school, we can't wait for our first day of high school. When we're finally high school freshmen, we can't wait to receive our diplomas. On every new Monday, we refuse to be happy until the weekend. After every holiday, we can't wait for the next one.
Instead of wishing all of our days away, we need to start enjoying them while they're here. Having a positive outlook on what each moment could bring as you wake up every morning could change your entire day. Why not have an eager and excited mind rather than one that is weary of what misfortune might come your way?
We need to realize that every single moment of our lives count, not just the moments at high school events, or Saturday nights, or family holidays. These moments tend to mean a lot to all of us and the memories we make will stick with us forever. But, what is keeping us from making these memories each and every day?
Instead of only focusing on the big events that stand out from our day to day activities, we should keep in mind that all of the little moments in life matter, too. One little moment can either make or break an entire day. It is so important to cherish all of the happy times in our life so when life isn't so happy, we have our memories to make us smile.
We tend to let our worries get in the way of our happiness. Realistically, its nearly impossible to have no fears or doubts, but we shouldn't let these stress factors control us. Everyone has their battles whether that may be with their health, financial status, relationships, personal state of mind, and so on. What can make those negative aspects of life not so bad, is focusing on the good things. Finding the good in every day can minimize our worries.
Enjoying each and every day now as it is happening will not only create a happiness in the moment, but that happiness will stick with you in your future. When you take the time to look back on your life, not just your best days and your biggest accomplishments, but also the ones you thought wouldn't really matter, you'll want to be proud of what you did. No one wants to look back on days you didn't try to have fun or enjoy yourself. No one wants to look back on moments you could've lived fuller than you did. We should aim to create memories we want to take with us. We should want to create days that will turn into stories to laugh about later in life.
So, slow down. Enjoy each day in the present. Look forward to your future, without rushing to get there. Create memories that will make you appreciate your past.
