Everyday I wake up, start my day with work or school, and think about time. I think about how in 3 years, I could be waking up somewhere else. How I could be starting my career in the place I love, doing what I love. I think about how in 3 years, I won’t be getting out of this bed and walking down this hallway. I think about time often, especially here. But, when I’m in Mexico doing what I love, I think about time differently. How in 3 years I’ll be here, getting out of a bed, walking down a hallway to get ready for something I love. I know every person that reads this has a dream, and I want to share what it’s like to know I’m living mine out.
I have been open about my previous missionary work to Mexico. How I have an incredible Mexico family and love every second of what I do. I often joke that one day I may never find my soul-mate, but I found my soul-place. You see this place, this dream is where my heart longs to be 358 days out of the year. And for 7 of them, I get to live it every summer. I love it and want to be there more than words can ever describe. I tell my middle school kids at church that, when you want something more than anything in the world, more than food and air combined, you’re going to work for it. You’re going to put in all the effort to get it and not just asking for it until mom buys it. You’ll pray, plead, and cry. You’ll strive for it in everyway; because you love it.
See that doesn’t just apply to 12 year old hoodlums, it applies to us as well. We are the innovative generation, the one that can change things. We are the ones that go to college for our dreams and not the money. We are the ones that skip college to follow our dreams. We are anything we want to be. So let me ask you this, what are you passionate about? Not what do you like, what’s one thing you truly love and couldn’t imagine your life a day without it, and when it’s not there you feel empty. Whatever it is, maybe, or you don’t know about it yet… get it. Fight for it so hard you come home worn out, email every company and CEO you can find. Do the research and be knowledgeable. If you want it, you’re going to put the work in.
We often think things will fall down to us if we go to college, get a good degree, make money, and then follow our dreams. But, what if today you’re supposed to apply for the internship not next year. What if today you’re supposed to run after the dreams, and later it’ll be too late. I love the work I do in Mexico, I truly believe there’s no place on this earth that will make feel like I do there. I am happy, confident, and I feel like I can do anything there. I mix concrete and show men how to do it, even if I can hardly pick up the bucket that’s full. I talk to kids in another language, one that I work so hard to learn but, I’m not fluent. Yet, they still understand, still have fun and want to swing with me. I love what I do, and I’m never going to stop trying to follow this dream. What about you?
