Something that everyone does almost regularly has always caught my attention and disliking. It is using sexist phrases as an insult. There are several sexist phrases that are harmful toward men and women. These phrases not only do not have good reasoning to use them but undermines each gender by making women feel like they can't live up to their full potential just because they are female, it makes men feel like they can't have feelings because of their gender. The reasoning behind these feelings are harmful, mean, and just ignorant. It is the 21st century it is time for these phrases/insults to come to an end. Here are just a few of them:

1. "Like a girl"

This phrase is used when someone is doing something badly/weakly. This discourages women and makes them feel like since they are female they can't live up to their full potential. "Girls" are just as capable and deserving of a chance to do things just as good if not better than any man. Women are taking a toll on the world today, running for president, holding big positions, saving lives, and etc...It is the 21st century people- time to get rid of this phrase.

2. "You're a pussy, stop being such a pussy......"

This term is said when referring to someone when one is being weak or emotional, as to say. Any women with a vagina aka "pussy" is just as strong to a guy with a penis. "Pussies" endure things such as childbirth, periods, etc...they are strong. I would take that as a compliment.

3. "You're a dick, don't be a dick....."

The phrase you're a dick, don't be a dick, and etc is referred to when someone is mean, rude, arrogant, inappropriate, or etc. Calling someone a dick is very vulgar and an inappropriate name to call someone acting in one of these manners. Having a dick doesn't automatically mean you are going to be any of these things.

4. "Man up, be a man, I'm the man...."

People usually use this term towards males the most- it is used when a male is hurt or being emotional, expressing his feelings. Men are supposedly not allowed to have feelings and must have it together all the time. This phrase puts men in an unfair place, for expressing themselves they are seen as weak and if they don't express themselves but, hold in their emotions instead, this can make for an unhealthy mental state which potentially leads to unhappiness.

5. "No balls, Grow a set..."

This phrase is said when someone wants another to do something usually daring and out of their comfort zone. If you are not strong, brave, etc enough to do so then you apparently have no balls. This term is so overused, come on last time I checked you don't need testicles to be courageous, determined, or brave.

6. "Real men ______, Real women ____"

This is usually said as real men don't cry or real women have curves. Every person cry's and for males not to cry is an unrealistic expectation set by the world. It is okay for men to share their feelings, wonderful actually. Usually, the phrase "real women don't or do something is used to praise women who behave as they're traditionally expected to behave. This buys into harmful stereotypes, it limits women who don't fit that prescribed idea about what a woman is and how we should act.

7. "You're smart for a woman"

This phrase is usually used by a man who is put in a place where he has to admit that a woman is correct or who has corrected him or proved him wrong. Instead of giving full credit to a female that she is intelligent or correct, he will minimize her intelligence to make himself look better. You do not need to be a man to be intelligent, there are girls doing huge, brilliant things all around the world.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
