We need to stop telling people to smile in hopes that it will make them less upset. I am so over people telling me to smile when I am either: upset, "straight-facing", or just don't feel like smiling at that moment.
Here are 7 reasons to stop telling people to smile when they aren't smiling:
1. Who are you to tell another person what to do and when to do it?
2. It is incredibly rude to butt into other peoples' lives and tell them what to do.
3. You are only making them feel worse.
4. You have no idea what is going on in their life, so to keep pestering them about something that isn't going to make them feel any better is very detrimental to their day.
5. YOU ARE HARMING THEM EVEN MORE.
6. Smiling will never cure the current problem.
7. Smiling will never even begin to solve the problem. So starting with a smile will not help in any way.
Instead of making demands of people, start by asking if you can help in any way, or if they are okay in the first place. If they say no, RESPECT THEIR ANSWER AND LEAVE THEM ALONE PER THEIR REQUEST! Nothing bothers me more than when people try to force their opinions on another person's life.
