There is one thing that almost everyone asks a college student when striking up a conversation and that is, "What are you majoring in?"
Well, since I have started college, I have been asked that question about a hundred times. I simply respond with, "Psychology."
And they respond with, "You know that is an oversaturated major," or, "You know you aren't going to make any money with that degree." I have also heard comments along the lines of, "You're wasting your time and money," as well.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one in this position. Many of other college students in "non-moneymaking" majors probably hear that on a daily basis.
To be honest, I doubted my dreams for a second. For a while, I worried that what they were saying to me was true. That I was going to spend so much time and money for nothing.
But the truth is, anyone can get a degree but it really depends on what you do with it. That is the key to success. If you put hard work into something that you're happy doing, you will be successful.
So, to all my fellow college students who have people doubting them and their abilities, just follow the path that truly makes you happy. Never follow what makes someone else happy.
I'd rather have a job that makes me happy than one that makes me a ton of money.
I aspire to have a career someday in which I can help people that are in a vulnerable state get better and reach their own personal goals.
I don't think that's a bad dream to have.
