Why We Need To Stop Skipping Over Thanksgiving

November does not mean Christmastime.

Why We Need To Stop Skipping Over Thanksgiving
Totally History

Perhaps one of my biggest pet peeves is when November 1 rolls around and people put away their Halloween decorations in exchange for Christmas ones. They're missing something important here: Thanksgiving. The month of November isn't meant to serve as an awkward limbo while people wait to celebrate Christmas. There's a whole other holiday between then for Pete's sake, and it's time we celebrate that holiday the same way we celebrate Halloween and Christmas.

Now, I understand the excitement about Christmas. I mean, who doesn't love decorating the house and tree, hoping for snow, and nights by the fireplace? The thing is, that all comes in good time. If you skip over Thanksgiving, consider all you're missing out on. First of all, there's the food, and boy is there a lot of it. Then you've got the leaves changing colors and falling to the ground. All of the beautiful things are happening around us during this time, so why are so many people in a hurry to skip through it? Consider also the reason we celebrate Thanksgiving in the first place. Sure, maybe it isn't the most glamorous holiday and you don't get any presents or candy out of it, but there is a genuine reason why we as a nation observe this day.

So turn off the Christmas music, put the tree away, and enjoy the time we're given, because when it really comes down to it, this is all about time. When we're in such a hurry to get from Halloween to Christmas we're losing valuable time. We can't get that time back, so we need to enjoy that which we're given. We need to be thankful. After all, isn't that what Thanksgiving is about?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
