You know what I am talking about; those posts on Facebook that say something along the lines of “share this or else your loved one dies tomorrow” or “share this or receive seven years of bad luck.”
Those posts are always floating around Facebook with the intention to get more shares or attention, and they achieve that goal in the most negative way possible.
Most of the time, when I see one of these posts, I get fooled and click the picture or read the entire caption. When I read it, two things happen, one: I get scared that if I do not share it fast, it will become true, and two: I get mad at not only the person that shared it but also at myself.
See, the thing is that these posts are not true. Just because someone with poor editing skills could add text to a picture and share it or it seems like a higher power will strike you down does not mean that the post will come true (plus, I really don’t think God works like that).
Once you get past that, you can do your part and not share them anymore. It puts negativity on people’s feeds and can sometimes ruin someone’s day. I know that it’s just social media and who cares, but people (like myself) spend a lot of time on social media. It’s a big part of their lives.
Along with the negativity is just plain annoyance. Those posts are aggravating, and I know a lot of people who seriously hate seeing those posts on their feed.
I know that me saying “stop doing it” won’t stop the people who share and make these posts, but I can at least vouch for those people who seriously hate these stupid posts.
Maybe one day, in a perfect world, people will stop using fear to get some shares on social media, but who knows.
